Does Soy Help Or Hurt Fertility?
It seems that lately there's been a Soy "backlash". First you hear how good it is for overall health and fertility, then all of a sudden it's bad. I did make Soy part of my diet while I was trying to conceive, and I can tell you from experience, it didn't hurt my fertility. Besides, think of all of the Asian cultures where soy is a staple in their diet...they certainly don't seem to be underpopulated! One argument that critics of soy make is that Asian cultures eat fermented soy like tofu which is healthier. Most Americans could benefit from eating more fruits and vegetables. If you're concerned about Soy, eat it in moderation. It's a great source of vegetable protein and there's so many different ways to get it in your diet. Protein is a necessary component of hormone production.
Here is an article that I've published before and it addresses soy and fertility:
Our results suggest that a high-soy diet probably won't compromise fertility in women," says researcher Jay Kaplan, PhD, of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, in a news release. The results of the study were presented today at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
