Getting pregnant Over 40 Naturally may be helped by green tea, but can it lead to miscarriage?
Most sources agree that green tea is great for your overall health - it's loaded with antioxidants and once you acquire a taste for it, it's a great beverage hot or cold. I've written before about whether or not green tea can enhance fertility and there are a couple of sides to the issue.See also: www.getpregnantover40.com for more on fertility foods and a fertility tea recipe
There are some sources that say green tea can enhance fertility because of the polyphenols. On the other hand, there are some sources that say drinking green tea can increase the risk of miscarriage because of "catachins". Catachins are the compounds in green tea which may inhibit cancer cell growth by blocking certain enzymes. However, they could also negatively affect a pregnancy because these enzymes are needed for the developing embryo.
I'll admit, it's confusing. In my case, I did drink some green tea while trying to conceive, however I probably didn't drink it in the amount that would make a difference either way.
